Formed in 1985, we are a friendly, self-help social support group who wish to promote the welfare and care of cardiac patients.  We lend a sympathetic ear and supporting hand to the patient AND their relatives and carers.

We celebrated our 25th anniversary in May 2010, where we were joined by the Mayor of Derby City Council, Cllr Sean Marshall, and our President, Dr Michael Millar-Craig (Cardiac Consultant at the Royal Derby Hospital).  Fifty members dined together at The Grange Banqueting Suite in Littleover to mark the achievement.

In April 2011 we bade a fond farewell to our President of 25 years, Dr Michael Millar-Craig at the Stuart Hotel.  The event was marked by more than 30 members who joined in marking the occasion with a presentation of his favourite tipple.  Michael spoke of the achievements during his term in office wished the group well for the future.

At our AGM in May 2011, we welcomed Dr Julia Baron, senior cardiologist of the Royal Derby Hospital, as our new President.  She expressed her delight at the honour bestowed upon her and pledged to do all she can to promote and uphold the ideals of Take Heart (Derby). April 2015 saw over 60 guests celebrate our 30th anniversary, attended by Mayor of the City of Derby Cllr Shiraz Khan and our President Dr Julia Baron.

Take Heart (Derby) achieved charity status (Number 1163703) on 24 September 2015, marking further progress of the group. Chairman Michael Flude commented, “This is a significant achievement for a local group, which will increase our profile and enhance our aims and objectives whilst still operating the group withour altering all our successful events programme”.

Take Heart (Derby) provides social and personal contact with others to share and understand the needs of those affected by heart conditions.

We keep in touch with our members through utilising a telephone tree and by publishing a Newsletter each month and mailing it direct to their home.

We are affiliated to the British Heart Foundation and work with them to promote issues and jointly raise funds.
